This option within the Biology major is designed particularly for students interested in continuing in fields associated with Cell and Development, including those interested in working in research labs or applying to graduate school or professional school.
EACH STUDENT MUST ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR KNOWING THE ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE THAT IS BEING PURSUED.

Applicable General University Requirements
Students earning the Bachelor of Science (BS) degree with a major in Biology - Cellular and Developmental Option must satisfy all general University requirements and meet all financial obligations before a degree is awarded.

BI 441, BI 442, BI 443, BI 444, and BI 450: Content must be approved by faculty advisor.

The Biology major must complete at least 15 semester hours of upper division biology coursework at Athens State University.
Exit Exam: An exit exam is required for graduation and is administered in BI 470 Biology Capstone or BI 471 Research Thesis Capstone. The examination serves the following purposes:
There is no cost for taking the examinations, nor is it necessary to undertake any special preparation for the examination. Exit examination questions are drawn from the following areas: Cellular Biology, Ecology, Genetics, and Organismal Biology.
Students with appropriate courses in allied health disciplines may be eligible to waive the required minor if approved by the faculty advisor through the University Curriculum Adjustment process.
