Psychology (PS)

In accordance with the tenets for authentic learning in psychology established by the American Psychological Association, the Psychology Program at Athens State University is committed to guiding students to become psychologically literate citizens by providing a broad and balanced understanding of psychology as a social and natural science. Students gain knowledge, skills, and values consistent with the science and application of psychological principles. The program emphasizes the value of psychology for developing insight into one's own and others' behavior and mental processes. In addition, the program focuses on recognizing, understanding, and respecting the complexity of sociocultural diversity.

Students pursuing a Psychology degree are prepared to enter a variety of careers such as mental health, social service, counseling, or advocacy. In addition, the degree prepares students for graduate studies in a many subfields of psychology.
