Behavioral Science

The Behavioral Science Program at Athens State University is committed to guiding students to become psychologically and sociologically literate citizens by providing a broad and balanced understanding of psychology and sociology as a social and natural science. Students gain knowledge, skills and values consistent with the science and application of psychological and sociological principles and a liberal arts education. The program emphasizes the value of psychology and sociology for developing insight into one's own and others' behavior and mental processes at the individual and institutional level. In addition, the program focuses on recognizing, understanding, and respecting the complexity of sociocultural diversity.

Students pursuing a Behavioral Science degree are prepared to enter a variety of careers such as social service, advocacy, marketing, or publication. In addition, the degree prepares students for graduate studies especially in social work.
