HY 412 Modern China

This course in modern Chinese history examines events and/or periods in China's history from 1644 to the current period. The period from 1644 to the Opium Wars will be covered briefly and most of the course will focus on the period from the Opium Wars forward. Within historical context, students will also study, read, discuss and write on challenges that contemporary China faces.
