Recommended for Physical Education majors only. This course is designed to develop the knowledge of candidates regarding: Familiarity with basic philosophies, fundamentals, and rules that will cultivate keen observation and discussion of the sport. Emphases will be placed on effective methodology, strategic and theoretical elements, and motor skills leading to the development of championship teams. Additional content will include training and practice methodology, nutrition, and the psychology of motivating and uniting players as a team. A major purpose of this course is to prepare students with the basic competencies needed for interscholastic coaching and to provide an understanding of officiating mechanics. Developmentally appropriate variations can be applied for effectively coaching youth league, or collegiate teams. Opportunities will be provided to utilize technology to complete course assignments.
