This course provides an introduction to the field of second language acquisition (SLA). It focuses on the differences and similarities in first and second language acquisition, historical and current theories of acquisition, common myths about language learning both in and outside of the classroom, factors affecting SLA, such as age and personality factors, and other related topics concerning language acquisition. This course also explores the fundamentals of linguistics and pedagogical grammar. Candidates discuss their implications for the K-12 mainstream classroom.
