GN 401 Politics of Genocide

This course begins by discussing and defining the crime of genocide and the development of the Genocide Convention of 1948. It continues by detailing theories of genocide from the field of political science and related social sciences and moves into case studies of genocide, including Armenia, the Jewish Holocaust, Cambodia, atrocities in the former Yugoslavia, Rwanda, and Darfur, and beyond. Finally, the course concludes by delving into the problems of intervention in, justice for, and prevention of genocide from a political and human rights perspective.
