ASTE 325 Knowing and Learning in Math and Science

The first course in a sequence of three teaching methods courses in the Athens State Teach program. The psychological foundations of learning are examined. Topics include problem solving in math and science education utilizing technology, principles of expertise and novice understanding of subject matter, implications of high-stakes testing, and foundations of formative and summative assessment. The goal of the course is for students to create a mode of knowing and learning that will guide their future teaching practice. Fieldwork consists of two experiences during which the teacher candidates will conduct clinical interviews.
