ASTE 303 Steps 1 & 2: Inquiry-Based Teaching & Lesson Design

Introduction to STEM teaching as a career. This course emphasizes the theory and practice behind excellent inquiry-based science and mathematics instruction. Topics include standards-based lesson design, behavior management strategies, and various teaching methods that are designed to meet instructional goals and learner outcomes. Fieldwork consists of eleven required experiences, including the planning and teaching of six inquiry-based lessons to students in local elementary or middle schools to obtain first-hand experience with planning and implementing inquiry-based curriculum and high school observations. Science and mathematics classroom are selected both the the diversity of the student body and the quality of classroom teachers, who serve as mentors for the Athens State Teach students assigned to them. (Minimum grade C required.)
