This course introduces students to the fundamentals of networking. The course will cover the basics of networking, introduce commonly used TCP/IP protocols and cover the fundamentals of an Ethernet network. Students will be exposed to the skills necessary to install, operate, configure and verify local area networks. Topics include the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model which is the framework for understanding and discussing how networks operate. Students will work on configuring LAN switches and IP routers, managing network devices, assessing connectivity and access issues and identifying basic security concerns.
