(Satisfies the Non-Western requirement for a B.A. or minor in history as well as elective requirement for the minor and Non-American History for a B.S. in Social Science.) This class introduces students to the broad historical, social, political, and economic forces that have shaped modern Africa. Students will engage, evaluate, and critically confront preconceptions about Africa, Africans, and people of African descent. Included is a description and analysis of the continent’s precolonial, colonial, and postcolonial pasts and current global standing and significance.
