A degree in Information Technology provides students with a strong foundation in programming, problem analysis, problem solving, and software engineering, significantly supplemented with practical experience using hardware and software resources available in contemporary computer laboratories maintained by the Department.
EACH STUDENT MUST ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR KNOWING THE ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE THAT IS BEING PURSUED.

Applicable General University Requirements
Students earning the Bachelor of Science (BS) degree with a major in Information Technology must satisfy all general University requirements and meet all financial obligations before a degree is awarded.

The Information Technology major must complete a minimum of 24 semester hours of upper division 300/400 level coursework in computer science (CS) or Information Technology (ITE) at Athens State University.
Exit Exam: To meet requirements for graduate with a Bachelor's of Science in Information Technology students are required to take the Computer Science Exit Exam. The exam will cover topics learned in the following courses: Digital Logic, Probability & Statistics, Programming, Data Structures, Information Security, Software Engineering, Systems Analysis and Design, Human Computer Interaction, and Database Systems. Students are required to pass the Exit Exam with a grade of 70 or higher. Students that do not pass the exam will be required to take an additional Computer Science or Information Technology course that the faculty will assign as a remediation course. Students will have 3 attempts to pass the Exit Exam. At the beginning of each semester 3 exam dates will be provided for students to register to take the exam. It is the responsibility of the student to be knowledgeable in all areas being tested. Students must have completed six of the nine subject areas before being allowed to sign up for the exam.
Students must select an approved minor from below or a Certificate program with additional elective courses to be approved by the student's faculty advisor. (Courses cannot double dip between courses in this section and program- required courses):
